Weekend+ Recap - Back to Midwest and New Clothes!

Oh Hey Hi! Good news, I didn't die from my cold. Yay!

Not only am I not dead, but I'm actually starting to feel pretty good. That cold really did a number on me.

Here's what's happened since my day in bed:

We Went to Michigan!!!

It was my extended family's holiday party AND Mike was able to set-up a residency interview at the UM hospital. Besides all the time spent catching up with family and eating delicious food (shout-out to my aunt who seriously hooked me up with vegan deliciousness!), my favorite moment happened on the flight in:

Just as we got through the clouds on our descent I saw it. My first real snow of the season. Eeeeee! It's good to know that I'll always me a Midwest girl at heart.

The cold weather has also added a new item to my ever growing gratitude list:

Husbands for window scraping. What a great thing.

New Clothes!

Monday was a big day in the Socie household. Mike's Black Friday purchase was finally ready for him. Let me tell you guys, it was worth the wait.

"I'm sexy and I know it"

That dude looks goooood. Who wouldn't want to hire a nice looking guy like that?

After all the sitting and moping and feeling sorry for my sick state of being, I started to get a little restless Monday afternoon. I had some chunky yarn and the perfect set a circular needles to whip up a new hat.

...and hubster with the photobomb win.

Guys, I don't want to brag, but I FREE-HANDED that bad boy! No patterns. No tutorials. Just a picture in my head of what I was going for.

My new hat arrived just in time for our return to the North. Our trek begins tomorrow. Friday night we have a pit-stop and Bethy's house. Then Saturday we drive the rest of the way to my parents' place. Home Sweet Home.

Tonight is Mike and my Christmas celebration. We've got our gifts to each other and our stockings, Coco-nog and holiday spirits, Christmas movies flagged on Netflix, and a vegan holiday roast ready to go. I can't wait to get the vacation started!

Speaking of vacation, I'm not 100% decided on what will be happening on here over the next week. I'm hopping to at least pop in with some pictures here and there and MAYBE a video if you're lucky :)

Less than one week til Christmas! GAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

Weekend Recap: Costume Reveal! and The Best Party tour

Welcome back to the work week. Blerg.

Did anyone else just witness a much too quick weekend? Getting out of bed this morning was rough. The hot shower got me moving, but then when we opened the door to take Luke for his morning walk...rainy rainy grossness. Yuck! Talk about wanting to just turn around and curl up in bed. It's definitely a jealous of the lazy puppies napping through the rain sort of day. Oh well...on with the recap!

Do you have Netflix??? If so, go home and watch ParaNorman. Mike and I watched it on Friday to kick-off our Halloween festivities, and it seriously rocked. The plot was entertaining and the movie itself was beautifully filmed in stop-motion. Loved it. Seriously go watch it!

Saturday was a day of errand running for me. Mike had an all day class at Children's Hospital so I was on my own. Yoga pants on, list made, dog walked, and out the door at 8:45. I was on a mission.

The green and pink was a happy coincidence.

I got home in time to finish up some last minute touches on our costumes, then got to work on the cash-only envelopes. I think they turned out really great:

Fun paper can make anything exciting.

Saturday night was the party. After nom-ing down some delicious BBQ pizza we donned our costumes and got in a nice photo session before we had to leave for Kier's.

COSTUMES!!

Ah yes, the rare Socie Cacti in all its glory. This was one of the most comfy costumes I've worn in a long time (I guess that's a perk of being an old married lady on Halloween). The process for putting it together was pretty cheap and easy and didn't require any sewing! We also had a lot of fun posing for people who were trying to figure out what we were.

The party itself was awesome. After having gone to Kier's party last Halloween we knew we were in for a treat. When it comes to Halloween decorations, Kier does not mess around. Let me show you:

Watch out for that disemboweled body...

Hey look it's the Great Pumpkin...

Also notice the bonfire and heat lamp...nice

Can't complain about your hangover, you've been warned...

Showed up stag? Don't worry. This creepy clown will be happy to dance with you...

It lit up and shook if you made a loud noise  by it

Not in the mood to dance? Why not play some beer pong OUTSIDE! Tent and black-lights included...

Kier nailed it right down to the creepy details.

Scariest decoration of the night: this random carousel toy sitting by itself in the corner. Spoooky.

Ok, the clown is probably creepier.

After all the excitement on Saturday, this is what our Sunday looked like:

Oh so cozy...wish I where back there now

Happy Monday! Hope you have something cozy waiting for you at the end of the day!

Weekend Recap...not much happened

Monday...whoomp whoomp

It was a pretty uneventful weekend around our place.  Here's the rough outline:

1. The League, Season 4: Completed. Yup, we watched the whole season start to finish. It's really the only way to watch a show on Netflix. BTW, does anyone else really not like Rafi?

2.) Crafty-ness I made Mike this awesome chop shirt. I'll go through how I did it in the next post. He likes it. I'm happy :)

Chop won't stop

3.) FOOTBALL It's here! Football Season. We had a great time at Ian's place. Grilled out in the courtyard, then went upstairs to watch the game.

Go Tech!

We also go to play the Frisbee game! It's a really great tailgate game that I've seen but never played... until Saturday. Team Socie totally dominated. I credit our UW upbringing.

One of last year's second years showed up with his gf. We ended up heading to their place for dinner and the Iowa vs. Iowa State game and left the little ones to their own shenanigans.

4.) Fall Reading List! I'm making a list of 5 books I'd like to read this fall. The first one is actually a trilogy, but after hearing rave reviews I knew I could knock out all 3 no problem. I'm currently a few chapters into book two of the Divergent series. It's safe to say I'm hooked. Book three arrives in late October. Can't wait!

Still looking to fill spots 4 and 5. I'm hoping my friend over at Bee in Milwaukee can provide some suggestions.

Smoose Update: We are 3 smoothies in, and so far so good. We ended up heading to Moe's last night as a last meal of sorts. We've got about two weeks til our next Moe's run :( Fingers-crossed we can make it. It will be interesting to see how a work day goes. I think it might be easier than when we were just sitting at home yesterday.

Hope you have a great week and remember, it will be Tuesday soon!
